Ye Olde Cupcake

Ryan and I had a little beverage date in Ogden, Utah recently and walked by Ye Olde Cupcake on our way to the coffee shop.

We ignored the shop, like we always do, until I spotted something glorious in the bottom right corner of the sign. Two beautiful little words. Gluten. Free. Gluten free.
So we of course had to step inside. We didn't get anything, but we wanted to know what our options were for the next time we were in the area.
GF options... I predict Ryan would have tried the peanut butter and I would have tried the mint
I still feel completely awful every time I eat too many grains so I've been pretty good lately about avoiding them in my day-to-day and saving them for a little treat every once in a while.

We had the pleasure of talking to the owner (always a plus) and were so reassured by his cross-contamination stance! His daughter and granddaughter have Celiac Disease so they are very cautious about cross-contamination and sterilization which of course made us quite happy.
"Real" cupcakes for you all of you gluten-ers.
Maybe it's just me, but I feel like cupcakes were second to cake until blogs came along. Reserved for class parties, maybe the occasional baby shower.
Bloggers started posting photos of cute cupcakes from great cupcake places in their towns and suddenly the cupcake world was taken by a storm! Right?
Do you have a favorite cupcake place?

Also, this weekend I finished reading another Chronicles of Narnia book... The Silver Chair.
Ice cream is like a miracle cure for heartburn! I've had it on weekdays several times in the past week!
I have one last book and then I'm done with this series! I do wish I'd finished it as a kid but I'm glad to be finishing it now!

In other news, a little special cause update since we're halfway through the month. I've raised some cash I will be sending in at the end of the month and I've so far donated 340 Swagbucks to Sandy Hook! If you sign up for Swagbucks using my code, I earn bucks as you earn them. I'll of course be donating all of those to Sandy Hook as well. This is a really great way to donate a little at no cost to you!

  1. I usually hit up Crumbs for a special cupcake every once in a while. I had a coffee toffee one there recently that was amazing! I too like to try and save my gluten intake for treats like this. :)

    1. We still do gluten free, I just try to be completely grainless except for special occasions. But cupcakes are always a special occasion ;]

  3. Want to know something funny? I wasn't even thinking when I started this post and I was like "oh, a cupcake shop, WHATEVER I CAN'T ENJOY CUPCAKES ANYMORE" and then I remembered HOLY SHIT I'M READING SARA'S BLOG, they must have gluten-free options! haha I need to read with my brain sometimes...anyway, I totally would've tried the mint too.

    1. Ha ha that's funny. Everybody always posts about food and most of the time I'm just thinking "Oh, that looks good" and scrolling past it... but certain bloggers' food posts get my heart racing because I know it'll be somewhere I can add to my list for when I visit that state! =D

  4. Wow I had no idea you could donate to Sandy Hook through Swagbucks. I use Swagbucks all the time (daily actually) and so conveniently have like 1,000+ that I now am going to donate there, thanks for letting me know about it! Is it just in the Swagstore or what? I can't seem to see it.

Also peanut butter cupcakes? Oh my gosh. I think a trip up to Ogden may need to be in order. :)

    1. Yep, go into the Swagstore and on the right side, click on charity. I believe Sandy Hook is the first one! =]
If you go to Ogden and would like to meet up, let me know a few days in advance and perhaps we can meet over cupcakes!

  5. I agree about cupcakes! I think it's just easier to make them look good in a photo than crumbling cake haha I don't have a favorite place for cupcakes. I think the only place I've had a GF cupcake was BabyCakes in LA and it wasn't that great.

    1. Yes, and sometimes when you take the cake out of the pan a big chunk of it stays in there! We usually leave the cake in the pan for birthdays since it's just the two of us and we're already impressed by the simple fact that THERE'S CAKE!!
There is a cupcake place in NY I've had on my list for over a year! I'm worried it'll be "disgusting" once I get there because I've worked it up in my mind for so long!

    1. I am so excited to travel abroad... but I've been thinking more and more about that lately, how strange it will be to have to go without certain things!

  8. I can't get over how many books you read! I really need to start reading more. I loved that series growing up, and I'm just starting to re-read a lot of the classic books that were my favorites.
