You've made it to the end of our Yellowstone journey! Tomorrow I'll share our quick drive through the Grand Tetons and then that'll do pig! That'll do!
After our little elk sighting we checked out West Thumb Geyser Basin, which is on the banks of Yellowstone Lake. (We did stop at Yellowstone Lake on our first day, but this was a different bank)

My favorite. When hot springs release their water, the minerals build up and form a little mound like this. I like to imagine how large this one will be in 50 years, 100 years, 200 years. Someday it'll look like a big, watery volcano.

Wolf! We've finally seen a wolf in the wild now!

My Kodak makes a little beep right before it takes the picture. He would be digging, then it would beep and he'd stop and look at me. Every time he looked at me, I swear he was staring into my soul. It was creepy and cool.

Another elk. Look how brave they are? We saw probably five more just about that close. The animals at Yellowstone are very desensitized to humans. People were talking and laughing and honking and this cow never even looked up, just kept eating!
We saw 10-15 cows and calves on our trip, but never any bulls. Ryan says we can't count our elk sightings until we've seen a bull with a huge rack. I agree. I'd also like to see a male moose (bull? buck? What are moose?) with huge shovels. |

We went back to our hotel (Old Faithful Hotel) and went down to the dining room to grab some dinner. Dinner was reservations only, and the next reservation was at 9:30, so we opted for the To-Go option. They had several items on their gluten free menu but I honestly didn't pay much attention because I was so excited for the soup! (Wild rice & vegetable) All I want these days is soup! It's not like that's really all that different from usual, but normally a few other things will sound good to me too. Ryan got the chicken cashew lettuce wraps, which he really liked, and we both had chips and fruit I'd brought from home. Also chocolate chip cookies because obviously.
In other news, Lulu eBook version of The End is $1.99 today through Wednesday.
You got some amazing landscape shots! Love the hot spring one and the misty treetops- gorgeous! Wolf?!? Super cool! And those lettuce wraps look fab! ~Naples Sara
ReplyDeleteThank you! Ryan took some of them too, I just don't remember who took what! I know, isn't the wolf great?! =]
DeleteI like that mineral mound as well and didn't know they were formed like that! Such a pretty place.
ReplyDeleteIt would be so cool to see a real wolf! They are so interesting and beautiful, though also scary!
I always pictured them being so much bigger, but I guess some are as big as a bear and some are wee like that one.
DeleteOh, and I love the new header!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Sometimes I get sick of looking at the same one over and over again!
DeleteLooks exciting! Especially the wolf encounter...
ReplyDeleteThat was my favorite part. =]
