The Twenty Dollar Date 8!

I just had a funny memory.
Once my mom was on the phone with one of her sisters and said "I'm catching up and crossing off the dates on my calendar. How about you?"
That really ticked me off.
She shouldn't be thinking about and making dates because she was already married to my daddy so as soon as she left the room I took it upon myself to cross out all the other dates so she wouldn't know where to go or when.
I don't remember how that story ends, just how it began. But I thought it was funny so there ya go.
Any ways, a spontaneous $20 date night from last week!

I LOVE diners. Love them. Something about them is just so fun and special.

Johnny J's was definitely no exception.
We ate dinner at home and then went to Johnny J's for milkshakes.
Diners are milkshake masters. They make the best milkshakes ever, and they give you that lovely, normal-sized glass and also bring out the rest of the shake in its metal mixing cup. That's WAY too much shake for either of us so we split one. I expected one glass and one metal mixing container, but instead she poured it into two glasses and even gave us both whipped cream and a cherry... which means I got two cherries because Ryan hates them!
=D

This is the kind of date I imagine us going on once a month after we feel comfortable leaving the baby with a sitter for an hour.
This date lasted just under 45 minutes and was $5 after tip.

  1. Sometimes I wish Vince liked sweets! It's nice sometimes because it's healthier, but it would also be nice to go out to ice cream together or split shakes! Instead it's like, "I'll have a sip and that's all." So not fun!

    1. Aw that's a bummer. What can you get that's cheap but not sweet? And gluten free? Nachos, if there's somewhere in Flag with good GF nachos? =]

  3. This place looks awesome, I'm loving the retro interior and that awesome Coca Cola machine. This makes me wish I had a boyfriend. haha, we have this awesome diner by my house that has been around since the 50s or something like that, yet they still make the best milkshakes ever. Now all I need to find is a boy to go with! ;)

    1. Isn't it cute?! I love any diner, but 50s style diners are always my favorites.
That's always the trouble, isn't it?! Finding a boy?! I'm thankful to have mine but I do remember those days!

  4. I love places like that too! I'm from a small town, so we used to have plenty to choose from. Now there is just McDonald's and Subway.

    1. There are still plenty of choices here in Casper, but it is definitely strange not having all of my old favorites around. I had to get used to missing a few things when we moved from Flagstaff to Prescott and again from Prescott to Casper, so now I'm curious to see what I have to give up moving from Casper to Utah!

  5. i love diners too...and i love milkshakes! :)

after gage was born and had a regular sleeping schedule, we would have home date nights. he would be tucked in by seven, so it was easy for us to cook dinner together and have a dinner/movie night at home. in our pjs. :)

    1. I have a feeling we'll be having mostly at-home dates until the baby is six months old, or maybe older, because we won't have any family living nearby and I feel weird about leaving him/her with someone I've only known for a few months too!

  6. I also love diners! Were you able to easily get gluten-free food there? This sounds bizarre but the best burger I ever had was at an "American" diner in Moscow. The burger and a milkshake was $20, but we went twice just because it was so amazing.

    1. You know, I didn't check. We had already eaten dinner at home so we just went for the milkshakes. I really liked it there though so I'll probably go back and talk to them soon. =]
