Travel ABCs!

I am still reading through the backlogs of C'est Christine and I loved this ABC Travel meme she did so I thought I'd do it too!

A: Age you went on your first international trip: My parents took me to Mexico before my first birthday. I don't count that though, so never.
B: Best (foreign) beer you’ve had and where: I don't really drink, but I definitely don't drink beer. Before going gluten free I had a sip of a Budweiser once and a few sips of a Corona later.
C: Cuisine (favorite): I love Italian food, but I've never eaten it in Italy. Or even Little Italy. Someday!
D: Destinations, favorite, least favorite and why: Favorite so far has been Fairy Lake in Montana, because it was peaceful and gorgeous. Least favorite was Sidney, Nebraska because it was boring and lacked good food!
E: Event you experienced abroad that made you say “wow”: I was trying to pick just one, but I realized they kept coming back down to wildlife encounters. Seeing a moose in Montana or a mountain goat in South Dakota were definitely huge wow moments for me.
F: Favorite mode of transportation: I miss my old Ford Escape. I love our truck, and it's great when we're pulling the trailer and are still getting good gas mileage, but I definitely miss a vehicle that doesn't vibrate all the time!
G: Greatest feeling while traveling: Looking at something amazing and then turning my head and seeing my husband taking in that same awesome moment.
H: Hottest place you’ve traveled to: If not Phoenix, Arizona (where I was born and lived until I was nine, then traveled to several times a year), then probably somewhere in Texas.
I: Incredible service you’ve experienced and where: Wyoming has great customer service. Everyone is incredibly friendly and kind here. Minnesota and Wisconsin were pretty friendly too, plus they get bonus points for having cute pseudo-Canadian accents.
J: Journey that took the longest: So far, Wyoming. We got started later than we'd expected, realized we'd accidentally lost all of our propane and needed to go refill it to keep our refrigerator cold, got caught up in some pretty gnarly construction traffic, and got a flat and needed to replace all of our trailer tires. We were supposed to arrive in Casper around 4pm on our second day of the trip and instead arrived around midnight.
K: Keepsake from your travels: I'm not very good about this. I want to get Christmas tree ornaments from every place we've visited, but Ryan feels like it's cheating if we didn't actually get them while on the trip. I do have a shirt and some refrigerator magnets (for my wooden refrigerator, ha!) from Colorado, and Ryan has t-shirts from Colorado and Montana, but that's it! I'm going to start being better about that now.
L: Let-down sight, why and where: The first Cabela's store in Sidney, NE was pretty small and disappointing... also, most of the things we wanted to see in SD didn't exist anymore.
M: Moment where you fell in love with travel: I don't know that I actually remember that moment. I remember always being very jealous of kids in elementary school who moved to our school from another state, and I remember the excitement of flying to Texas to visit family every summer, but that's about it.
N: Nicest hotel you’ve stayed in: The Point in Phoenix, AZ. We stayed there the night we saw Brad Paisley in concert, so exciting!
O: Obsession—what are you obsessed with taking pictures of while traveling?: Ryan of course, food, sunsets.
P: Passport stamps, how many and from where? None. =[
Q: Quirkiest attraction you’ve visited and where: Hmmm, that's a tough one. I think I'd have to go with Seligman, Arizona. If you've seen the Pixar movie Cars, Railroad Springs is actually based on Seligman.
R: Recommended sight, event or experience: If you go to Arizona, you've got to make time for Northern Arizona. See the Lava Tubes in Flagstaff, dip your feet in a creek in Sedona, walk around the adorable historic downtown in Williams.
S: Splurge; something you have no problem forking over money for while traveling: I'm the stingiest person I've ever met. I have a problem forking over money for lots of things.
T: Touristy thing you’ve done: Took pictures with the Standing on a Corner statue in Winslow, AZ... I'm pretty touristy in general though, walking around with a camera around my neck and taking pictures of everything there is to see.
U: Unforgettable travel memory: When we went to Vegas on our first anniversary, we were frustrated trying to find a cheap hotel for the first night there since our plans had changed. Ryan was speeding and he got pulled over backwards. An officer up ahead of us put his lights on so Ryan pulled over and the guy backed up to us. I'd never seen that before.
V: Visas, how many and for where? None.
W: Wine, best glass of wine while traveling and where? I don't like wine. =0
X: eXcellent view and from where?: The Wolf Creek Overlook in Pagosa, CO is pretty awesome... and so is the view from Enger Tower in Duluth, Minnesota.
Y: Years spent traveling?: I've been traveling since I was just a few months old, but actively traveling as an adult started in 2010.
Z: Zealous sports fans and where?: I'm a big football fan, and so is my husband. We desperately want to see a Chicago Bears game in the snow someday. I'm sure it'll actually be miserable, but I imagine myself bundled up with a hot cocoa and screaming until I go hoarse.

  1. Oh I love your greatest feeling! It gave me goosebumps. That's my favorite feeling with Vince as well.

And that is crazy about being pulled over backwards. I don't think I would have thought to stop!

Vince and I are collecting magnets with the state name for everywhere we go, and we weren't able to find any in Idaho. Seriously, every place we stopped didn't have any! So now I want to buy one online but I feel like it's cheating!!

    1. I was actually just in a gas station this morning with a magnet for every state in it and thought the same thing... but I think you get a free pass on Idaho since you couldn't help that one!
